I posted this in the tablet forum too, but this forum seems to have more traffic.

Is anyone out there feel a little disappointed at their x220(t) "HD" webcam? The quality of images/videos is "ok" but definitely not what I would expect when the term HD is used. Did anyone change the camera setting in the communication utility and have improved quality? Or have a better alternative solutions beside buying a different webcam? I really hope it's software-related issue, but I doubt it.

Compared to a Microsoft LifeCam HD it's crap. Compared to the one of the T410 it's good. I think the quality for an integrated cam is quite reasonable. I think the only thing that may improve the quality is the light in the room.

People think that HD means good quality. Unfortunately it often only means the same bad quality in higher resolution ...

    ^^ +1
It's a webcam, it does its job good enough for me...it doesn't really get any better. The Macbook camera is supposedly good and all but turning up the resolution just gives you more pixels of grainy video. The X220 camera is as good as any other integrated camera.

I guess it's ok for now...But with all the smartphones these days packing amazing camera quality into their thin frame really make integrated webcam look outdated. Manufacturers should stop using the letters HD so sparingly to mislead consumers into thinking they can capture videos "some-what" comparable to bluray movies.

heh... crap, fixed-focus picture in HD is about right with nearly all webcams on laptops these days. It does fine for skype etc IMO and if I need a better quality image with autofocus I have a logitec 9000

I don't know, I think it's quite good (assuming it's the same cam as in my laptop). I get vastly better contrast and automatic exposure than with the $70 Creative HD cam I used to have.

HD - simply means the resolution it is capable of. HD just means resolutions 720i and above. It doesn't mean or imply anything else. It's the same thing as megapixel count. 8 megapixels simply means a resolution a camera is capable of, one should not expect a 8 megapixel cellphone camera to perform better a 5 megapixel DSLR camera.

I would not expect a webcam built into a laptop bezel to be of great quality. If you want a great quality webcam, get a dedicate one with bigger lens and sensor.

The worst part about the x220 webcam is that it has a very hard time dealing with bright lighting conditions.

Under medium to low light, it does a good job.
