What do you think. Is it a chance that we will see a displayport on T400 some time?

No. They would have included it already. The DisplayPort connector is apparently supported through the dock though, which is a consolation at least.

BS. I'm tired of Lenovo not having a decent video out. You gotta pay $200 for a dock? That's retarded. Everyone else can find room, why can't they?

Yeah could have found room if they wanted. But it's a Thinkpad, do you really need the latest video-out?

    no. It's a Thinkpad.

There's no point in having DVI anymore, a straight jump to DisplayPort is preferable because it's higher bandwidth and you can use an adaptor. It's physical size is smaller as well as it's internal size.

Actually, there's no point in having VGA anymore. Not including DisplayPort on the T400 was a mistake.

Why does being a Thinkpad excuse the fact that it lacks decent video out? When $600 HP's and the Sl series have HDMI, its sad that a notebook that costs significantly more can't also have it. And just because they are business-class notebooks doesn't mean that people don't want to hook up to HD TV's, etc.

For me, the lack of a Display Port on the T400 has me waiting for reviews of the new Dell E series, as the 6400 will feature a Display Port. Otherwise, I would have ordered a T400 by now.

What are you guys talking about? Look at the port to the right of the VGA port.

EDIT: Sorry, I guess that is a picture of the T500.

Wrong. Besides I was referring to DVI over DisplayPort - that is pointless. VGA is still used on most projectors.

Leveno actually talked about this issue on one of their blogs a few months ago. They ignore most of these ports because they are focasuing on their enterprise custumers who look at those ports and see 'On 10,000 machines and $1 per port with 3 port types that is $30,000 extra'. The same issue extends onto things like webcams, business accountants and IT workers don't want to spend more money to introduce security risks and increase training times.

Lenovo will never ever make the perfect ThinkPad like the good old IBM days my T42 had everything at that time DVD Burner + S-video + Bluetooth + IR + Fingerprint scanner at that time no other PC vendor offered such specs except on a ThinkPad now unfortunately my T61 is thicker & heavier and has less options!!! i was very disappointed to know that T400 doesn't have a DisplayPort then it was a consolation to know that T500 has a DisplayPort although i wanted a 14.1 screen i was not welling to change from ThinkPad to another brand however when i started the configuration process another Lenovo limitation stricken me again no LED!!! And no Blu-ray obviously Lenovo's policy is not to make the perfect notebook so I decided to continue using my T61 for now and have a serious look at Dell’s new Latitude’s E6400 & E6500 its very sad when a company doesn’t listen to its customers I’ve always been a ThinkPad user but I really want a fully featured notebook ThinkPad or not!

It is indeed getting much more difficult to get the "perfect" notebook. You have to make sacrifices all over the place just to get something marginally good.

    BTW, some periods would help.

    yea sacrifices are required...

i gave up looks when i decided to go with lenovo thinkpads. and then i gave up 14 inch screen, and an led backlight option just to get that displayport option on the T500.

but im kinda happy that i am over the phase where i like the laptops which look like shiny toys for children. i am upset that i couldnt get an led screen though.
