Until today i have not found ANY LCD/LED television with displayport. Will this port become useless port in Thinkpad?
I end up using VGA more and more.

Anyone knows where these will leading us? I think HDMI is more popular now.

Displayport is royalty free. HDMI is not. Both can pass audio along with video. In my honest opinion, displayport is the superior connection standard, but your guess is as good as mine as to why it hasn't been widely adopted.
I did find one monitor at Newegg that does have a displayport connector though. :p If push comes to shove, you can get displayport -> HDMI adapters.

    I think you are right.

I find conflicting fact here, Displayport is free and claimed to be technically more superior than HDMI. But now almost LCD i found using HDMI and none of them using Displayport.

We get a new display standard every couple of years now. DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, ThunderBolt, etc.

    What's next, GreenHornet? :D

Well HDMI is more popular in the consumer market, since that is what lot of TV supports. However, displayport is used more widely in high end LCD computer monitor, since they are capable of supporting more than WUXGA resolution, which is the limitation for most of the current HDMI ports (although there are standards out there to match Displayport in terms of resolution support).

Thinkpad is a business laptop (most of them anyway), so the port selection are designed to cater to the business customers and not the multimedia oriented regular consumers.

But you can get a displayport to hdmi converter, if you do want to run the DP with HDMI oriented devices.

Also DisplayPort to DVI and with the appropriate adaptor, DisplayPort to two external displays.

I think that it is a TV lobby. On hi-end monitors you can find displayport everywhere.

Displayport is supposed to be the replacement for DVI.
