I have a Lenovo X200 with the Ultrabase docking station. The external monitor is a HP LP2275w with a native resolution of 1680x1050. The operating system is Windows XP SP3 with the latest updates installed.

When the display is connected over a VGA cable (connected to the DVI port of the display), everything works as expected. However when the Display is connected using the Displayport cable, the problems start:
    - The display is detected as generic LCD display (and I have to manually change the display driver to the one provided by HP)
    - When I set the resolution to 1680x1050, the laptop uses only a resolution of 1440x900 and the screen scrolls around when the mouse is moved
    - The external display turns off every couple of 10s of seconds for a second or two

    Any hints or suggestions?

Hi, I have the x200 with ultrabase and the HP LP2475W. I had this same issue. I think it is due to poor implementation of DisplayPort on the HP. I am using a Display to DVI adapter from monoprice and then a regular DVI cable.

I have the exact same issue! Using an X200s ultrabase with the HP LP2275w monitor, which is going blank every 10s or so. Did you solve the problem by using a displayport to DVI adaptor?

Yes, as I mentioned the displayport implementation on the HPs monitors doesn't seem to be that great. I just used DVI (adapter) and it is fine.

Do you have any further information that leads you to believe that the Displayport implementation is bad on HP's side? Could be Lenovos fault as well, couldn't it?

Thanks for your tip, it works like a charm with the DVI adapter now :)

I connect my X200 to Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP via Displayport, using the cable that came with the monitor, with no issues so far.

I based that off because I had not heard any complaints from other users. And it was way too reoccurring of an issue to know it was lenovo's end and not hear any other users noting it.

I use a monoprice VGA to DisplayPort adapter and I get the sporadic turning on and off as well...

Anyone figure out if this is a firmware issue with Lenovo or it's the adapter?

Neither, it is most likely the HP display.

So are there any monitors that actually work?

If you don't mind my asking, why is a DVI-Displayport adapter yuk?

Exactly that adapter fixed the issue for my LP2275w. Exchanging the LP2275w 3 times through HP did not. So I assume, as earlier mentioned in this thread, that the design of the Displayport input in the HP is flawed.

Because I'd like to not have to pay $30 for an adapter (monoprice), for something that should plug directly into the port.

Why didn't they include DVI/HDCP?! Who knows!

Well it isn't exactly lenovo's fault for this instance. However on the new docking stations there are more output options with DVI and Displayport.

    Uh... isn't it lenovo's fault?

The new ultrabase has displayport? Hrm, maybe it's worth the $200 upgrade?

Also, I noticed on monoprice the adapters have this disclaimer:

Is that an issue with this?

Did you even read the thread? We concluded it is the HP monitor's implementation because a simple adapter that takes the digital video from the displayport and makes it a DVI connector functions just fine. If you aren't plugging into the HP monitors with displayport it works fine.

So again it is not the fault of lenovo. I am passing digital video from the ultrabase to my HP with a displayport to DVI adapter. I have been using it for a year.

try changing the resolution of the monitor using the Intel Display tray rather than Windows display property.

I've been using a Samsung monitor via the Displayport via a VI adaper cable for quite some time with no issues.
I added a external VGA monitor (LG) and it worked fine. Yesterday I ran Lenovo system maintenance/upgrade and updated the recommended drivers, etc.... Today my Smasung (digital) monitor is blanking out whenever there is a full size or spreadsheet (Excel) window open.

Any suggestions - not sure you can "rollback" the Lenovo updates.
