I recently cloned my system disk on a Lenovo z60m with Windows XP, SP2, because I wanted to increase the system disk size. I cloned the system disk to a 160 GB Seagate drive, and then replaced my original drive with the clone. When I looked at the partition for HD0, it showed one partition (IBM_PRELOAD) at 132 GB NTFS. It showed a second partition called IBM_SERVICE 16.78 GB FAT32. Is this partition required or can I recover this disk space somehow?

    Thanks,
    Bob D.

its IBM recovery partition. It stores all the data needed if ever you want to restore your system back to its default settings.

Last time I used 'ghost' it allowed the option of selecting which partitions to clone, and you could omit the recovery partition.

Are you using Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image?

For the cloning process, I used Apricorn's EZ Gig II and the notebook upgrade kit. Disk Manager sees the IBM_SERVICE partition, but I can't do anything with it. When I right-click on this partition, there are none of the usual options. So it must be encrypted in some way.

Yes, It's "hidden", but if you use a dos based partition manager it should see it and be able to delete it. Then resize the main partition to the entire drive.
