Hello, computer specs are in my sig.

I'm doing a clean install of XP SP2 onto a completely clean hard drive that has been partitioned into multiple partitions in preparation for multi-booting, including Linux. The SATA setting in the BIOS is set to Compatibility mode.

I get past the first set of blue install screens, where the installer copies a bunch of files and then it restarts. However, when it does restart I get this error:

    Code:
    A disk read error occurred
    Press CRTL+ALT+DEL to restart.
AFAIK, the disk is clean and good. I ran a Hitachi diagnostic tool before installing and it said it was fine. I also zero-filled the drive with DBAN before I did anything. I also tried Recovery Console -> fixboot and fixmbr. Did I screw up my install of SP2 somewhere?

Maybe your installation CD is scratched, try making an image out of it and see if you get any read errors.

Hrm, I hadn't thought of the CD being the issue. I'll go and borrow a friend's XP SP2 CD and do the install. Maybe it'll work. Thanks for jolting my memory.

    EDIT: Yep that worked, thanks.
