So with the new line coming out, will I be able to see a even cheaper price on the T61 or are the current deals it?

Tough to say. It will likely depend on the reception of the new series. If sales of the new systems are lukewarm they may not cut T61 prices much so as to prevent cannibalization. Or if they're selling every T400/T500 they can build, and sales of T61's haven't stagnated, they may not cut T61 prices.
The risk is also that configuration options may diminish. Note how the T61's aren't currently configurable with 6 or 7 cell batteries; 4 or 9 cells are your only choices where not long ago you could choose 6-cell if you wanted to put up with a shipping delay. What next? -
I have been following the T61 for a few months now and the prices have dropped almost 100$. I have been researching a new laptop for about 3 months now.

The deals are really good at the moment, and since we're ending the close of a financial quarter and also back to school that's usually when you see the best discounts, don't expect prices to drop much more.

Though they have been better. They had a base T61 with Linux for about $650 earlier in the year. I almost bought one. Honestly any information you get here is going to be a guess. Lenovo isn't going to share pricing information with anyone here. About the best you can do is watch for a while so you'll know when it's low.
