    Hellow everybody

    I've bought a new g550 lenovo notebook with
    * Intel core 2 due 2.10 GHz
    * 4 GB RAM
    * 320 GB HDD
    * Nvidia G105 512 dedicated

    The problem is that I it takes along time to startup or shutdown
    even when i've just run the windows for the 2nd time it hanged on shutting down ( and that's before i've installed any programmes yet !!!)

    this problem happens frequently but not all the time

    the 2nd problem is that my lenovo came up with 4 GB ram but the windows shows me that it's 3 GB only . I assume that the problem is because the 32x bit windows vista home premium .So if i want to use the 4GB Shall I Install a 64x bit vista copy ??
    Or in 7 will be better?
    I'm wondering why do lenovo give me this 32x version while the notebook needs the 64x version !!! :mad:
    What shall I do throw it and buy anew 64 bit win.:confused:

    Will the 64x version will be faster in my case?? or it's not a matter of windows version ??

    The last question is about the battery
    When I'm using the notebook on the AC current shall I remove the battery to reserve it?? or that's not important and don't effect the battery, although it's written in lenovo's user's guide that you should insert it to prevent small particles from entering .....

    Thank You very much

    Hellow,

    1. Vista taking a long time to startup and shutdown.
    "The problem is that I it takes along time to startup or shutdown."
    It would be helpful is you mentioned how long it takes to startup & shutdown. In minutes.

    2. Vista 64
    "So if i want to use the 4GB Shall I Install a 64x bit vista copy ??"
    That is an option. But before making the jump to Vista64 you should ask yourself if it's worth the trouble. Are you using software that would benefit greatly from a 64 bit Operating system, or are you just surfin the net and using Microsoft Office. If you really want to take on switching from Vista32 to Vista64 then I recommend you read the Vista Clean Install Guide by forum member Stallen (see link below) and see if you prepared to take it on. You could also look into doing a clean install of Vista32, some people comment that gets rid of unwanted programs and helps the computer run faster. Or you could wait for Windows7 to become available and check it out.

    3. Windows 7
    Or in 7 will be better?
    Yes you could wait for Windows7. I have heard it described as snappier than Vista, but I haven't read anything about reduced startup and shutdown times.

    4. General Confusion
    I'm wondering why do lenovo give me this 32x version while the notebook needs the 64x version !!!
    What shall I do throw it and buy anew 64 bit win

    I suspect that you ordered your computer with Vista32. Some people still require the 32 bit OS because they have software or hardware that isn't 64bit compatible yet. So manufacturers still offer it.

    5. Vista64 vs Vista32
    Will the 64x version will be faster in my case?? or it's not a matter of windows version ??
    Keep in mind that the speed of your harddrive has the most influence on startup and shutdown times. A 7200rpm drive is faster than a 5400rpm drive. You haven't mentioned the speed of your harddrive.

    6. Battery Care
    When I'm using the notebook on the AC current shall I remove the battery to reserve it?? or that's not important and don't effect the battery, although it's written in lenovo's user's guide that you should insert it to prevent small particles from entering .....
    Keep in mind that if you remove your batter while on AC you run the potential of loosing any unsaved work if there is a power interruption. I can't comment as to whether this can help the battery last longer as I've never looked into it. This topic was previously discussed in this forum. see the following link.

    Most of the OS's from Lenovo are 32 bit versions of Vista. The is only one that is 64 is Vista Business.

    Most peop's don't understand that the licensing as Microsoft has defined it, makes either the 32-bit or 64-bit equivalent. That is, if you are licensed for one you are licensed for the 32 or 64 bit versions of the same operating system.

    'but I haven't read anything about reduced startup and shutdown times.'

    This is is supposed to be one of the benefits and I do see it on both my Extreme Desktop and my T61p.

    'I have heard it described as snappier than Vista, but I haven't read anything about reduced startup and shutdown times.'

    I have and it is snappier.

    'I'm wondering why do lenovo give me this 32x version while the notebook needs the 64x version !!! What shall I do throw it and buy anew 64 bit win'

    I'd be careful in using the "needs". The fact is that 32-bits provides plenty of memory for your machine to be fast.

    I'd wait for windows 7 and if you ARE THAT CONCERNED about start up time you can either:

    1.) wait for windows 7 to see how fast it starts up after a clean install.

    or

    2.) buy a 320GB HHD @ 7200rpm to replace your old HHD and use your old 320 GB with an external enclosure as an external HHD.

    I'm sure there are other alternatives to solve your problems, but why would you let start-up time and "3 GB" use mess up your experience? Is it a good computer overall? I.e. Does it perform well when you give it tasks and through daily use? If not, consider doing more research and send it back and get a different laptop.

    [IMG]

    I don't know how either my hard desk is 7200rpm or 5400 rpm, could you tell me how to know??

    my notebook boots up in 1min
    after typing the pass it takes 2-3 mins to start up
    40-60 sec to shutdown and sometimes it takes more than 10 min

    YouI've been wondering about indicated disk speeds too and you know, I've come to the conclusion, I've come to the conclusion that the only way to tell is to know what type of disk it is and then look it up.

    Check your Rescue and Recovery settings. It can be set to create a disk backup every week, or other period of time. If it is doing this while you are trying to shut down it may have to complete the disk backup before first which might take a while. Just a guess though.

    Lenovos come with alot of bloatware, try clean OS install. A 7200rpm HHD could also help with load times, check out the WD scorpio black series
