Is it possible to turn off (or reconfigure the behaviour of) the fingerprint reader on the X220? Friend of mine has one and she complains that the reader on her machine tries to turn on the system when the lid is closed and the X220 is in her bag. I can't see why that would happen, but...

It's also an issue for me since I'm looking at getting one myself, and am not sure about getting the fingerprint reader.

She couldn't disable in under Windows, so instead I think she tried to disable it in the BIOS, which now results in Windows complaining about something. :( Weird...

How did she try to turn it off?

I think she might be running into the power on setting.

In the Lenovo Thinkvantage Tools, go to FINGERPRINT READERUtility, click SETTINGS > AUTHENTICATION, and then uncheck the two settings under POWER ON SECRUITY.

I suppose you could also go into Device Manager, right click and DISABLE it.

Personally, I adore this feature. It's never started in my bag.

Fingerprint reader is like automatic doors on a minivan--once you have it, you will never buy a car without it again.
