    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to set my optical drive on my T400 to power off whenever my laptop is running on battery. I've been looking in the Lenovo Power Manager utility and have enabled 'automatic optical drive power off' under 'system settings' while on battery. However, I don't believe that this turns it off immediately after I switch to battery: it seems like it waits a while, maybe for a timer or until my battery reaches a certain threshold, and then turns the optical drive off. I haven't been able to find any other settings in Power Manager relating to powering off the optical drive.

Can anyone think of any other ways that I can power the optical drive off whenever I switch to battery? My second choice would be a way to power it off at all times, even when plugged in. This would be fine as long as there was a way for me to power it on and use it without a reboot.

    Thanks for your help!

    Isaac

    Disable/enable in device manager?

I agree that it'd be useful to have more control over it, or even a manual power off option when right clicking the drive.

There's a setting in Lenovo's power manager. Mine automatically shuts off after being on battery for a certain time. Check 'system settings' > 'automatic optical drive power off'

Yeah, that's what I've been using so far. I'm looking for something that will turn it off right away when going on battery, or that will allow me to turn it off altogether but allow me to turn it back on and use it without rebooting.

What about "safely removing" it via the taskbar or Lenovo's easy eject app? But you have to do this manually, I don't know of something that will do it right away when going to battery power.
