    Hi,

Im going out to a projector from my 470. But only going to use HDMI for video. Is the headphone jack a digital output and if so, what type of cable would be required.

    Thanks if anyone knows.

headphone jack is a standard jack that you would see in any music player/ipod/pc.

no there isn't. What do you mean by digital audio out? I'm pretty sure a standard jack would be considered "digital audio", and so would an hdmi.

The only two sources of audio out on the Y470 are from the headphone jack (analog, basic, standard headphone jack) and the HDMI port (digital audio-out, standard HDMI).

No, the standard jack is analog. I think the OP is looking for something like an S/PDIF port or something of the like. That interface, however, is very rare on notebooks, and can usually only be found on high-end gaming/multimedia 17" laptops with plenty of room for a huge array of ports.
