I'm new to this notebook world..
I do remember my first laptop when I was 11yrs old now I'm 22yrs old
    was a IBM Thinkpad :)

2 days ago I got a IBM T42 did a trade for 1 of my phones.. boy do I like this laptop. I previously used a Dell D600 for a few days that my friend had lend me. I also used a Dell XPS M1210 (hated it). but yea, it seems like I like the build quality of this ibm, i just want a widescreen now :)

what are the difference with Lenovo 3000 notebooks, Thinkpads, and IdeaPad?

The 3000 series is the low-priced budget line of notebooks. They're are generally bulkier and sport lower performance than the other series. Ideapads are the "consumer oriented" line of notebooks. Basically they're a little more stylish than the 3000 series or the Thinkpads, and are catered towards multimedia applications. Thinkpads are the business line of notebooks, and the most popular. They generally have an edge in build quality and offer more features than the other two lines of computers.

If you're interested in widescreen, I'd recommend the Thinkpad T61p.

Well, apart from the X61 series, they're all widescreen...

^I know, it was just a way of saying that I don't recommend the Ideapad series.
