It looks like the only difference between the "Elite" T410s configuration and the standard one is solid state drive. However, if you customize the standard config to have a solid state drive, it still comes out to about $100 less than the Elite one. Is there actually a difference?

The configurations should have all the same specs available. It's just a marketing strategy. Sometimes the Elite model is cheaper than the standard one with the same specs.

Try all configurations with the same specs and take the cheapest one of the bunch.

I had the same question. I guess I am going to go for the standard setup + 128 SSD.

But I am curious for a college engineering student that will deal with CAD, will the SSD make a huge difference for performance? Or am I better to get a HDD drive?
Also how is the SSD for the T410s, is it different from the ones for T400s (in terms of is it newer)?

    Does the T410s use 1.8" HDDs/SSDs like the T400s?

I think there is an 80GB Intel option as well. It's cheaper than the 128GB SSD (Samsung or Toshiba) and will generally perform better in most cases.

The SSD won't necessarily make your CAD program any faster (usually CPU or GPU bound), but it will make every action in your system faster. This is especially true as the T410s only has a 1.8" 5400RPM HDD option (slower than 2.5" 5400 RPM drives). I really think an SSD should be the only option for the T410s (same for x301, T400s). If you need more than 80GB of storage, put a secondary 2.5" HDD (preferably a large 5400RPM drive) in the optical bay to keep your media and other large files.

Ah ok thanks for your information, I also have another question. On the thinkpad website on the page where you choose which model of T series you want, it says T410s has Nvidia 3100 but when you click on T410s and go to the page where you can choose which configuration you want, it only says integrated graphics card? What is incorrect here? Does the T410s have hybrid graphic card?

Hybrid graphics will be up on the website in mid-Feb. The integrated Intel is plenty powerful for everyday tasks except for gaming, etc. The integrated model will be cheaper as well.

For the Hybrid graphics, it seems to be these... anyone have an idea as to what this is?

It's Lenovo-speak for the Intel Arrendale on-CPU display graphics. It is apparently 25% faster than the older integrated chips, if you believe the initial reports.

    Specifically:

    Practical Speed difference
    Battery life

    comparable processors in each:

20% better cpu peformance in t410
    should be similar battery life
    same screen resolution

Wow, thanks for responding so fast!

Is there somewhere I can see a list of ALL differences between the two.

Also, is the speed difference indeed a full 20% difference, is there a practical "noticeable" difference?

    Thanks so much
