I was told by the Lenovo person on the phone that the "p" just means professional and you get Windows XP pro and an upgraded graphics card. Is that correct?
I'm checking the X and T series...is the only difference the screen size? The configuration I want is much cheaper with the X series than the same configuration in the T series. What more do you get with the T series?
I'm calling Lenovo back this afternoon, but thought I'd get non-salesperson input first Thanks! Lisa

The P models have higher end parts like a faster hard drive, CPU and graphics card. Most pre-configured T models come with XP Pro though you can configure it with home on Lenovo's site. Performance wise the X and T will be pretty simillar. The X is smaller/lighter. It does not have an optical drive. It also has no touchpad, only the pointstick. It has a card reader which the T lacks. You can get the T with a high resolution screen. The X is only offered at 1024x768. The T also has better docking option with DVI outs and such.

ahhh...
this is the P: Hard drive: 100 GB 5400 rpm SATA Hard Drive Model# 41N3022
this is the non-P: Hard drive: 100GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive Model# 41N8354
so, one is a better model? -
They are the same.
The "p" doesn't necessarily mean that all the parts in it are superior to the "non-p" T60. It simply means with the "p" one you can customize it with better options. It is also much more expensive.

ONE of the reason why the p is much more expensive lies in the graphic card used.
-
After you factor in the cost of the optical, compare XGA to XGA, and essentially compare apples with apples... you'll fine that the X is a lot more expensive than a similarly-equipped T
That's because it costs a lot more to create miniturized electronics.
The X is designed for portability (being about half the bulk of a T) and long battery life but sacrifices a lot with its small screen; the T tries to optimize performance and portability.
They are like night an day. Ideally, get one of each! -
In terms of what are the p grahics cards better than the non-p mainstream cards?
-
P are meant to be mobile workstations, they have fireGL cards for CAD and other workstation tasks. The regular t "mainstream" cards are more intended for games. That's not to say that the workstation cards won't play games, but sometimes they have issues.
