Hi, I currently have a 6-cell and getting about 1,5 hour of video playback or internet surfing on highest brightness setting (made a change in the bios so it's the same level as it would be on AC power). Can anybody tell me from their experience how much time I would get from switching to a 9-cell. On paper, I should get 46% increase (82.24Wh vs 56.16Wh). Is it true in real life? Also, I know that 9 cell stick out a bit. Does anyone have any issues with that? I am trying to decide if a 9-cell is worth spending $$. Thanks.

Yes, it definitely is worth the money.

yes, get it

i don't have a problem with the extra inch sticking out the back for the extra hour or two of battery life.

I have a 9-cell in my T61P. At times I don't like the added weight, balance, but at times I enjoy the 4+ hours of battery life, with moderate settings.
A higher capacity battery pack will usually have a longer life, given the same power drain. The depth of discharge will be more shallow. -
I would go for the 9-cell it really isn't bad having it stick out the back. It does add a little weight but I have never noticed that it is heavy or uncomfortable to carry.

If you really do get ~1.5 hours then that means your computer was using on avg 37.44 watts(this does seem very high for just watching a movie and especially high for internet surfing(i use around at most 25 watts for internet surfing) but if you really do then on a 9 cell you would get 2 hours and 12 minutes. This seems very low so I think you have more battery life on that 6 cell; At least 2 hours seems a bit more reasonable but still low as that means on avg 28 watts are being used. On a 9 cell 28watts would give you just about 3 hours.(this is most likely video and I still think its high, if i may repeat,) as for webbrowsing i dont think it'll ever exceed 25 watts
With everything lowest and almost everything off(No ext hd,cdrom, wifi off, bluetooth off, screen lowest brightness, 15hz refresh rate, cpu @ 600 mhz @ .95v, hd turn off after 30 seconds) i use around 12 watts, if i don't do much such as if i am reading cached articles or pdfs word documents etc in low-med ambient light. This would give me 4 hours and 40 minutes but since i am most likely going to have random spikes of power usage then its safe to say i am going to get 4 hours, with 9 cell i am most likely going to get 6 hours like this -
on highest settings my laptop lasts 3+ hours with the 9 cell
and i can easily make that go a LOT longer if i turned down the brightness -
Thanks, I might have to get it then. I wonder what should I do with a spare 6-cell.
