I am just wondering if there is a difference between the OS DVD that you have to pay $50 to Lenovo for and the Vista recovery DVDs that you burn from the hidden partition. I'm on a T61p Vista Ultimate.

Do the recovery DVDs allow you to reinstall the whole OS if say your whole Hard Drive died, and you had to get a replacement Hard Drive?

I just feel "insecure" that I don't have an actual OEM Vista Ultimate OS DVD...considering the fact that I DID pay for the OS.

There is n difference, but I believe the newest versions of Rescue and Recovery allow you to do a custom install, putting on only the programs you want. You are then allowed to burn another set of recovery discs which will install like the custom recovery.

wat do you mean by newest version of rescue and recovery? I have already burned DVDs for the recovery. So...are you saying if I update the Thinkvantage Suite's rescue and recovery I can burn another set of recovery disks with more installation options?

I don't think the burning will be different, just the installation options when you use the disc. For example, you can choose not to install anything other than the basics.
