Have any of you called Lenovo to complain? Are they going to send the parts to you when they become available? Can you install it yourself? Are they offering a discount or credit in lieu of that feature/technology or because they couldn't deliver the goods? Don't just take their BS...Get something back.

I plan to contact Lenovo and complain. I have my original quote that included UWB. Was forced to cancel my order because it was screwed up in there system and reorder the "same system". All order where done over the phone. If I make any progress I will post the outcome.

My laptop was delivered today. Most likely not going to have time to ***** until next week.

Sweet. I have confirmed UWB installed on (2) T61p so far.

I called Lenovo today, and they told me to wait and order in 2-3 MONTHS if I wanted this feature....a bunch of BS from the toll both operators in Customer Service.

Anyone else? They announced ALL T61p's to come with UWB...lets compare notes to get you something in return.

You guys act like UWB is a must have feature and they're ripping you off.

does UWB come on the t61p 14"? never saw the config option, but a shaded box showed up when config'ing the 15" t61p

Thought the UWB is just a given on all the Ps?

actually, I think UWB is something I paid for in my purchase price, and they ARE ripping me off by not sending me WWAN either. That said, WWAN doesn't work with ITM, so I figure they owe me UWB.

I must have missed something. Did Lenovo start sending non-UWB laptops to people whose order stated UWB?

    All I see is
    1) large delay for most people who ordered their notebook with UWB
    2) some had to cancel their order from a glitch and reordered when the UWB option was not there

It's a pointless technology for most in its current form - so I wouldn't be worried about it...but if Lenovo is sending laptops w/o wusb when their order said it would include it - this is something to worry about.

Its a pointless technology? The ability to communicate without wires at a rate of 100 Mbps verses the current 3 Mbps ? I wonder how many other products/technologies would have been snuffed out if more shared your overly simplistic views? Why did we need USB when we had Firewire?? Any time you have competing technologies, we all usually win in the end from the resulting innovations.

If you've paid for it, why don't you have it?

If you paid for it, then yes you definitely should recieve it with the laptop. I bought my laptop knowing I didnt pay for it...I didnt see it in the overview nor as a customizable option. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67709

Current it IS pointless. How many bluetooth devices do you use? I use 0. In the future when UWB docking stations become standard, and that 100Mbps is increased to 480Mbps+ like we are expecting - then hell yes this is a necessity. Right now, 100Mbps is a JOKE for connecting devices.

I've heard alot of people talk about how they are so excited about Wireless USB - this being the main reason they want this. As you pointed out - this runs at 100 Mbps. This is a BLUETOOTH upgrade...NOT USB.

USB2.0 (480Mbps) still blows WUSB(100Mbps) out of the water and is the main reason I wouldn't connect a single damned USB device up to it.

How does the ease of not having to connect a single cable overcome the fact it will take more than 4 times as long to transfer something?

Hmm - this is only 100Mbps now? I read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_USB as saying it's 480Mbps at 3 meters, and 110 Mbps out to 10. 110Mbps is still blazing fast 30 feet from your desk. Get bluetooth to do that! Hah! I use 3 bluetooth devices every day - a mouse, a cell phone, and a headset. If my external HDD was bluetooth - I'd consistently be using it. Unfortunately it isn't. You have to read before you leap, friend. I thought the same thing - until wiki educated me :p

Nod. I was complaining about having to wait for WUSB too, until I realized it *was* 480Mbps at shorter distances. That kicks ass though. 480 should be plenty.

    Right now, yes.

I wouldnt write off the possibility of putting it in later. There IS a part number for the WUSB in the hardware maintenance manual - thought I am unsure if the module is soldered in or not.

interestingly there is also an error code that refers to: "Unauthorized Wireless USB card is plugged in - Power off and remove the Wireless USB card." Not sure what this means exactly..do these adapters have to be authorized?

Sorta. I believe it's like the miniPCI wifi cards. They have to be explicitly whitelisted or they won't work. I can get more info from a friend who was doing some hacking to get his to work.

Where do they get whitelisted? Is it a bios type function/setting?

Where did he grab his module from?

Well, I see a few of you guys have been trying to be as clever as me =)
Today I ordered 1/20 UWB cards from Pennsylvania. We'll now have to see if the antenna, and the soldered wire connecting the antenna to the UWB card come all together. If they do, that'd be great. If not, I kind of wonder if the chip will work like that, or if you just need to do something else to hack it to make it work.

If Lenovo can hack their systems to accept the UWB, then we can find a way to do it too. I AM concerned about finding a way to get the antenna into the lcd bezel though...

So it looks like we are looking for:
    42T0885 WUSB Adapter
    93P4520 UWB antenna assembly

We could probably buy these easily through a lenovo certified service shop or something: http://d03bphrb.partner.boulder.ibm....nsf/PublicSPPartnerSearch?OpenFrameset&NL=en

Anyone have pictures of a partially dismantled LCD bezel/area etc that shows where the antenna is wired? Also some innard pics of a thinkpad w/o the UWB?

On some parts lists, i remember reading NO UWB as a part, that probably means you dont have the antenna. Looks like Lenovo is screwing us over and leaving us no option for upgrades.

obviously lacking that NO UWB part (though I know what you are referring to). We have the part numbers for both the wiring cables I guess it is, and the module itself. I am lacking the cable part number so this may point to no pre-wiring in itself. I wonder why some people's specifically say no uwb.

That would be odd if they pre-wired some and not others..

I'm assuming 15WSXGAW/BTW/OWWANW/UWB is the installation code for the wiring only...not an actual part.

This leaves just the antenna and the module part codes to find elsewhere.

This list is extremely comprehensive. Is this from your status page or some other location? Mine is like half that size - and ignores all the service items.

This was my order status page from 7/11. They changed it somewhere at the end of July.

Antenna and module codes are there too...

Just did that. It is essentially the same 'short' list with the exception of the addition of the warranty as the last item. Still quite different from the long list others have.

We need someone to find the part number on the UWB Antenna. Not even Lenovo tech support knows what part I'm talking about, neither does their parts department. They all think it's a wifi card/antenna i'm looking for.
