    Hello:

I just recieved my T61 back for repair (which I would like to say, I shipped Friday night and recieved Tuesday morning - I happen to be amazed).

The problem for why I sent this in aside, I have the following question:

My original computer had an 80GB 7200 RPM Hard Disk.

One of the things that the repair center did was to replace the Hard Disk and re-image this.

I now see in My Computer that my hard disk is 71.8 GB free of 86. GB - this makes me think that there is now a 100 GB Hard Disk in this computer (allowing additional space for the hidden disk image as well as the 'lost space' in conversion of bytes to bits or whatever that issue is).

THIS MAKES ME HAPPY, however: How can I tell if this hard disk is 7200 RPM vs. a 5400 RPM disk drive? Because, I will take the faster drive (which I originally paid for) over space for the specific applications I use this computer for.

    Thanks!

Of note, I see on the T61 order pages now that the lowest size 7200 RPM drive available now is 100GB and that there ar no 5400 RPM drives in this size - which makes me think that I got a lucky upgrade.

Most easy solution is to just take it out and check. It's usually just a matter of taking ou the 2-3 screws that hold it in place then have a look at it and place it back in.

A 100GB should about 93GB total space, so I assume the recovery partition is on there also. Very nice. :)

To check your HDD type, go into device manager, and expand 'disk drives'. Then type the number you see into Google.

    yeah, good tip.

Google search for "HTS721010G9SA00" takes you to a Newegg listing for a 100 GB Hitachi 7200 RPM SATA 150 drive with 8 MB of cache.

Assuming things are 'fixed', I am a very happy customer. May the same fortune await anyone else sending in their comps for repair!

I sent in a t20 years ago to get a warranty repair on the motherboard. They replaced the worn keyboard, and the scratched lid as well....all for free and overnight. I have nothing but good things to say about the warranty repairs I've had done.
