I recently purchased a t61p with the student discount during MA tax free day. Is it a good deal? (Could I have gotten a better one?)

This is the configuration I got for $1453

    INTEL CORE 2 DUO PRCESST7300 2.0 ghz
    MS WIN VISTA HOME PREMIUM
    14.1 SXGA+ TFT
    NVID Q FX 570M W/-WWAN
    1GB PC2-5300 667MHZ 1DIMM
    80GB HDD,5400RPM
    INTEL TURBO MEMORY 1GB
    DVD REC.8XMAXDUAL LAY UB-S
    PC CARDSLOT EX CARDSLOT
    INT.WIRE.WIFI/LINK4965AGN
    9 CELL LI-ION BATTERY

Since the expected ship date is 8/30, is there any potential price drop in the near future?

I also recently learned about the Shareholder discount (same as student discount) and the Fatwallet discount (4% ;) - is there any chance I can combine all the discounts to get a better price in a few weeks?

would stacking student discount and SPP be possible? and then on top of that getting a Fat wallet discount?

Do you think I could get a better price this way?

What kind of tasks will you be doing on this notebook?

Fill out the FAQ so that we can help you better.

I also recommend getting 2gb of ram(you can upgrade it yourself).

SPP and education discounts have their own order pages, so I doubt that you can use SPP and education at the same time.

You could always call and ask.

At that price it's a good deal with a one year warranty, killer deal with a three year warranty.

Add in the tax free part and in either case you did very well price wise.

Kdawgca, thank you for your help, but I think that I'm pretty set on what I'm looking for in terms of specification. I hear you on the RAM though, I ordered 2gb from newegg when I ordered the computer.

What I am uncertain about is Lenovo's pricing and my own timing. I'm not sure why Lenovo is having such a large sale on all of their PCs right now - Just last month the Ps started at 1800, and now they start at ~1400, are they clearing out stock to get ready for a new line of thinkpads in the near future? Are price drops in the next month be similarly significant? If so, I might be willing to wait.

I am also very uncomfortable about the long wait time for shipment - what's the deal with that? What if prices change dramatically over the course of the month? Historically have there been price breaks after the rush to get new "p" thinkpads were over? Because if that is the case, maybe I can wait also.

In terms of what I plan do do with the laptop - I intend to use it as a DCC machine primarily for modeling and some light rendering, I will be using a desktop for heavy renders - so the 128mb card will be fine. But if prices will drop even more in the near future (1-2 months), I might be interested in returning and getting the 15" t61p instead with the 256 quadro.
