I got off chatting with the Lenovo support. They said "no sir the keyboard in not configured different than the US keyboard it only has bilingual functions ." Clearly that is not the case it has both the funky enter key and the shortened left shift.

Is this not a deal breaker for other Canadians? Everything is perfect...well ideal for $1000 dollars anyway even the glossy screen is manageable. But this keyboard thing. Yukie. I do web design, graphics work, etc. If you use your keyboard a lot you know this is a no go zone. I would install a parts ordered US keyboard but I cannot find any love on this topic.

Anyone know if I can order a US keyboard and instal it myself? Sale end Thursday and the chat guy says no $500 off coupon any longer on gtx660m with 1920x1080 y580 models.

Yes, you can get your own US keyboard and install it.

Also, the thing with Lenovo coupons is - completely bogus. They are perpetually there. The coupons you see have been there since release. I read before that Canada actually has laws prohibiting this kind of thing (a merchant must have items that they list "on sale" at regular price for a certain fraction of a year), but I guess Lenovo doesn't play by that. There's not a single notebook they sell that doesn't have some massive 40% discount. They might change the coupon code name from time to time, but it's always there.

Ah good thanks. I knew I could do it (instal the keyboard) I just do not know where I might get one right away (Lenovo said it was not available as an orderable part from Canada). And what the price might be. As for the sale price I suppose I should not be surprised that "Anthony B." at Lenovo straight up lied bout everything else why not the discount also. It sounded credible because it seems a bit under priced compared to other units with the same specs. Samsung, etc. Also other units in this line appear to have a smaller discount more what you might expect from a coupon code around 150 bucks or so. Has it really been listed the whole time at this price? Ha, cheeky bugger. Nothing like a sense of urgency to push the sale through quickly.

If all else fails, you can remap keys next to the enter and left shift to make them 'bigger'. That's what I'll be doing if I find I don't get used to the slightly different keyboard layout after a few weeks.

The keyboards won't be available for a while. They'll start popping up on ebay soon though..

Eh, i use the keyboard a *lot* (using it for work, C# web development) and it took me about two days to get used to it and now I can use it as well as a standard keyboard so I don't find it that big of a deal.

You know I use the adobe suite so much when i wake up in the morning my left hand is clutched in the ctrl+ alt + shift (the adobe finger mash ) position. I live on that stupid shift key . I worry is all, that bouncing between home PC and bilingual laptop keyboard will annoy me to no end. I am that guy you see that reaches for a mouse that is not there even an hour after i have been on the laptop using the touch pad. A little slow on the uptake I guess.
