I hope to soon decide on a thinkpad model. Easy enough for most of you, rather difficult for me. I have never owned a laptop before ... period. So please forgive me if my knowledge on this subject is lacking (and it is)

I had, and still have, a great desire to own a thinkpad. I've read up quite a bit on these, however questions still remain.

Basically I thought I had found what I needed, a T series. The flagship model. Naturally I focused on the T61 right ... may as well get the newest T series with the santa rosa platform. Well I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed with all the problems I've been reading about these. I can only imagine spending a great deal of money on one, wait seemingly forever for it to arrive, only to have it malfunction. The intense internal rage would slowly build inside me. Soon I would have grotesque thoughts of severing heads and dismembering the bodies of those whom I felt responsible for this. But we'll get to that another time, in another thread.

I am now entertaining the idea of purchasing an R series thinkpad. I have not given this much thought before because I understood the T series was "the way to go", and also the price difference between them, on the lenovo site, is negligible.

Is this something worthy of consideration? Or just a bad idea alltogether? Is the R series comparable enough to the T series, or is the T series in a completely different league? Do the new R series thinkpads suffer the same drawbacks as the T series? I have not seen much talk about the R series here.

I look forward to all responses. Thanks in advance. :)

The reason there are so many reports of problems with the T61 is that there are so many people buying it. I doubt the actual percentage of people experiencing problems is much higher than with other models. People will join forums to complain about something, not to say their computer is working fine.

That said, I don't know much about the R model so I can't give you any insight there.

ok great i appreciate the help.

i looked at alot of laptops today after i cleared it with my probation officer.

i found the 14.1 widescreens too damn small. I will need a 15.4 widescreen for sure. and i guess that rules out the r series coz all i see on the lenovo site for r's are 14.1 which are too small and gay.

I think we should make a poll!

    Question: Is this demented logic?

Yes - this is not demented logic
No - this is demented logic

    :D

My T61 is complete garbage, I'd go with the IBM-designed T60 or another manufacturer.

My T61 is complete greatness, I'd go with the Lenovo-designed T61 and not another manufacturer.

i think i will wait for a 15.4" T61p. If it turns out to be "garbage" i assume i can just return it

i also wonder what GPU's are going to be available in the T61p...

Just about every post you make is complaining about the quality of your T61. We get the point already, just sell it to someone who really wants one....
