I currently have two laptops, one of them being the T400 with high nit option.
This laptop screen gives 680 nits, FAR above anything else currently available by any manufacturer (that I know of).
I use this laptops on the beach and in patios and can work in full sunlight without any issues.
Unfortunately this high-nit option was only offered in low resolution (1280x800).

I am looking to upgrade to a new laptop soon: lighter, faster, haswell, sunlight capable, high resolution (ideally 15" and touch screen too).

However Lenovo discontinued this option. It has never offered the high nit on any other laptops except the T400.
Was there no demand? Or maybe the demand was low because the resolution was low?
Is there anyone else who is looking for a high resolution 600+ nit screen?

The only manufacturer that offers *really* high-nit panels is Panasonic AFAIK. Their CF-31 range goes up to 1100 nits. Have one at work and love it.

However, it's a rugged 8lb offering with a measly 1024x768 resolution on the world's last 4:3 notebook panel.

You can petition Lenovo for anything you feel like. The fact of the matter is that they don't listen, or care.

    Good luck.

Even on the T400, the high-nit option lasted for only a short time and was added relatively late in the T400's life cycle. The only other non-Toughbook-class laptop that comes to mind that has a high-nit display is the Dell E6430 ATG (and earlier E6420, E6410, etc).

There are more notebooks with screens in the ~400 nit range that should be quite usable outdoors, although I'm not sure about early afternoon sun at the beach...

I think some of the Asus and Samsung notebooks offer high-nit screens, but I don't know if they go up to 600. I think they max out at 400-500 nits.
