Firstly, sorry if this question has been discussed before...

I've just used the Diskeeper (v9.0.545.0) that came with my T61p and ran the Defragment facility and it showed the following after it completed:

    Fragmentation percentage
    Volume fragmentation: 4%
    Data fragmentation: 24%

I've run it a few times but the figures don't change. I've also run the Disk Defragmenter program that came with Windows and there's been no change.

Is there a problem with the program or my T61p?

Is there another defragmenting program (preferably free) that people use? I've heard the name JK Defrag bandied around, but how good is it?

JKDefrag will not only defragment your computer but also optimize. By optimizing, it pushes all your data to the fastest part of your HDD (outside rim).

JKDefrag is a highly recommend defragmenter. Just download and run it. No installation necessary. If you don't want it, just delete what you downloaded and that's that.

Try running the Windows Defragmenter in Safe Mode and see if it lowers the data fragmentation %.

I recommend JKDefrag as well but for a faster solution Auslogics Disk Defrag is another popular one.

The -a 3 switch on by default, btw. You don't need to do that when you run JKDefrag.

This is what the makers recommend,

I've heard that JKDefrag is quite slow. Approximately how long would it take to defrag a 200GB HDD?

Speed depends on how much of the 200GB you've filled.

I've filled about 60GB. (This includes the extra partition that was automatically setup with the T61p which stores the original program files etc)

The hidden partition you don't really need to defrag. JKDefrag takes about as long as Windows Defragmenter, possibly shorter.
