Hi
I just received my T61 14.1'' yesterday and I noticed there was a dead pixel. I found some programs that could fix them but it didn't work. (The pixel is black).
So I was wondering if it was worth returning/exchange it for 1 dead pixel (shipping times are like 3-4 days in Canada, so I could probably get a new unit really fast anyway). Would you guys accept a dead pixel on a new computer? (Never had one before on more than 4 LCD's, so this is kinda new to me).
Here is the Lenovo Canada Return policy :
4. Return Policy
For a new Lenovo Machine, you may return it to Lenovo for any reason within 30 days of the date of invoice and obtain a refund or credit. Lenovo does not provide refunds or credits for portions of a packaged offering provided at a single price. You may return the complete package for a refund or credit. To qualify for this credit or refund (as applicable), you must call Lenovo at 1-866-42-THINK (1-866-428-4465) to obtain a return-authorization form. You must return the new Lenovo Machine, including all documentation and accessories, intact and in its original packaging, to a Lenovo designated location by the date Lenovo specifies. A copy of the invoice, the return authorization form, and the shipping label must accompany the return. Shipping and handling charges generally will not be refunded or credited. Lenovo Machines returned without a Lenovo return-authorization form or returned after the date specified by Lenovo, may be subject to a restocking fee equal to 15% of the price paid. You agree to pay the restocking fee as Lenovo specifies.
As I understand this, you can still return it in Canada even if the boxes are open (at least thats my understanding of including all documentation and accessories, intact and in its original packaging). Or correct me if I am wrong?
Thanks

mattireland It used to be the iLand..
Yes you can return it.
I think you should but if it's too much hassle can't you live with it? It is a manufacturing defect though so I do recommend taking it back if you've failed to fix it using software.
Have a good time using your new excellent notebook!
Hope this helped! -
You can return it, but it will likely cost you 15%, unless you come up with something other than the dead pixel, or find the right csr.
Lenovo has ridiculous minimum dead pixel number requirements before they will do anything about it- in some cases requiring up to sixteen dead pixels, depending on the display.
Call and see, then if they want to charge you 15%, decide if that's worth one dead pixel. -

one dead pixel on a new laptop is unacceptable. return it! especially since you know that the turn around wont be very long

You should be able to exchange it without paying a penny.

After calling Lenovo, let us know how it goes!

How do one tell if a pixel is dead. I never paid that much attention.

Thanks alot for the help/advice guys!
I will probably call them on monday and try to have it replaced/exchanged! I will report back to let you guys know how it goes. -
You should return it. According to your post, you have 30 days to return for any reason (and really, no reason at all). If you are getting another one, they shouldn't make a big deal about it.
Returning the system is the only way they will try to improve the process and reduce dead pixels. If you "just live with it", it gives them no economic incentive to fix the process. This is the only power consumers really have, so use it!
You can test your LCD by using this program: http://www.ekimsw.com/products/lcdtest/ -
Man, if I couldn't tell I had a dead pixel, I wouldn't want to know.

hmm... you usually dont hear alot about dead pixels dilemmas from thinkpad notebooks

I called them this morning. They didn't argue at all, and offered me either to reduce the price of the laptpop by 300$ or to send it back to them and get a new one.
For 300$ I think I am just gonna keep the laptop, considering 1 dead pixel isn't so annoying (is it located at the lower right part of the screen, so I can live with it). -
