    Hi folks

I am loving my new x200s... best machine I've ever had.

Unfortunately, it came with a dead pixel :( because it's a 1440 x 900 you can imagine how ONE dead pixel would look like. A teeny dot, period. It's confirmed dead 'cos I tried many ways to see if it's actually stuck but it's not stuck. It's black all the way.

But it's enough to drive me nuts seeing it everytime I use w/o docking, cos it's located on centre left and middle.

Is there any chance I can get a replacement screen from Lenovo?

    :(

Unfortunately you will have to learn to live with it and ignore it. Since you said that you tried everything I am assuming you tried the massaging technique and software like dead pixel buddy to get it unstuck?

yes i've tried massaging technique and also software (jscreenfix) but neither have worked.

as it's a single pixel and so small (1400 x 900 on a 12.1 screen) i don't dare to try the method of applying pressure on it and then switching it on (in case it generates even more dead/stuck pixels).

do you think i've a chance to get lenovo to change it? 'cos it was ordered online and so obviously i couldn't check the product beforehand.

otherwise should i try to be mean and 'create' an additional two dead pixels in order to 'qualify' for the 1-1 exchange?

I think it's unlikely, but it never hurts to ask.

Learn to live with it or buy a new screen. I was in exactly your position when I got my first notebook ever. After some weeks I didn't even see the dead pixel. Just start to use your notebook for whatever reasons you bought it and stop looking at it as if it would be a painting. ;)

You know that in some countries you are liable to prosecution when encouraging a criminal offence (fraud)?

What about manufactures that claim that dead/hot pixes are not a fault unless you have a certain number. , that knaws at my innards.

That's a policy known before the purchase - if you don't like it, don't buy.

I wonder how ppl would react if all vendors would shift to a zero dead pixel policy with the necessary increase in price. Even a small 1366x768 panel consists of 1.049.088 pixels (that's 3.147.264 subpixels!) - a zero dead pixel policy simply wouldn't be economical.

I totally agree with you, but it`s a hard thing to have to stare at 2+ dead/hot pixels in the on your screen.

i've read how some forumers successfully 'pester' the lenovo person over the phone to change... i wonder what their tips are...

anyway i didn't know about the pixel policy by lenovo before i bought it... just for comparison what are the policies for the other popular brands (dell, sony, etc.)?

Most have similar policies—with a varying amounts of dead pixels. However, I wonder if there are any NOTEBOOK manufacturers that have a zero dead pixel policy (I know some LCD manufacturers do this).

If I remember correctly, I think the reseller XOPTIC offers a zero dead pixel policy on the machines they sell, but you have to pay extra for that coverage.

i think it's kind of suck when it's all down to luck right? i'm going to argue with them nonetheless to change no matter what...

    sigh.

How about they sell them at a discount?

AMD makes quad-core CPUs, and if one of the cores is defective they rebadge and sell it as a tri-core instead. When IBM manufactures the 8-core Cell processor, Sony takes the ones with 1 defective core and uses it for their PS3 to save costs. I don't know any PS3 gamers who complain about having 7 cores instead of 8 ;) This shows that slightly defective products can be salvaged.

Why should two people pay the same, and one person gets a better product than the other? It's not fair.

Some of my family members don't mind 1 or 2 dead pixels, but I do. I would be glad to pay a small premium to get a perfect screen, and in some cases I may even be willing to tolerate a dead pixel or two to get a good deal.

I think this is the real honest way to deal with the dead pixel issue..

maumu: It wouldn't hurt to call and try. You could also complain about backlight bleed if you have any of that.. Maybe if you bug them enough they'll send you a new screen. I remember with my old Dell I called in because there was 1 dead pixel and pretty crazy backlight bleed, so they sent me a new screen. As others mentioned, it won't hurt to try! :)

my t400 has a dead pixel also
i called them, told them that i had 1 dead pixel and they told me they would replace it
however after they received it, they said that their customer service rep did not know the dead pixel policy and they could not replace it. I complained a bit, and they escalated my case. they said they would call back a week later
1.5 weeks later, they did not call back. I called them and they had no record of escalating. they just sent it back after I wasted 2 weeks waiting for my laptop

That sucks...basically I assume that if lenovo ever tells me someone will call me back, they are lying. But that is my experience in general for most companies, save FedEx.

hmm... mine is still pending follow-up with the engineer (here in my country). seems like lenovo has sub-let their after-sales services to a 3rd party, 'cos they don't seem to make decisions on the spot.

supposed to get a call from the engineer this friday... certainly hopes he succeeds in replacing the screen for me... the dot is irritating me everytime i use it cos its so in the middle on the left side!
