I just installed daemontools today, and before installing my battery life was estimated to 6 hours and 20 minutes with the 9-cell (T400). After installing, this dropped to 4:20 (lol). Could it be that the power manager thinks the virtual drive is using battery power to run? Has anyone else experienced this before?

I haven't experienced that myself. Just to be sure I just switched to battery power and gave it a quick test, didn't notice any difference. Did you simply run daemon tools or did you also mount an image? Depending on what you mounted and ran, it could affect your CPU/RAM/hd usage and therefore battery life.
Also which part of the install are you referring to? If I remember correctly, daemon has to shut down and restart the system before it finishes installing fully. Perhaps the extra juice your system needed during all that cut down on your timer a bit. Letting the system idle should shoot the remaining time back up.
One thing's for sure though, the power manager would not mistakenly think that the virtual drive is using power. -
It was a pretty easy fix; noticed that my CPU after install was running at 50%. After a reboot it went away so the problem is no more.

DaemonTools tends to be a little funky; unless you need it for some special reason, I go with lighter solutions like Virtual CloneDrive
Daemontools lowered battery life
