    hi all,

trying to hook up two monitors to my T43. i have two VGA monitors, one going to the VGA outlet on the port replicator, and i was hoping to hook up the other --via adapter-- to the DVI port, but as it turns out, there seems to be no adapter to accomplish this. anybody successfully gotten this done and if so, where did you get the adapter? TIA

I think there are plenty such adapters. Many video cards come with dual DVI ports and DVI-to-VGA adapters. You can purchase them on NewEgg.

How about this? Is this what you need?

The port replicator has a DVI connector.

ideally, yes, this is exactly what i need and, in fact, what i bought at the local electronics store. the problem, however, is that the thicker prong at the far right of the picture (not the little round ones but the larger, flat one) is much too wide for the slot cut into the DVI port on the port replicator and none of the ones on Newegg seem to have teh thinner type.

i actually want to create a large desktop accross two monitors, something the T43 should be quite cabable of doing.

I have a friend who did just that on his T42, but he was using the laptop screen as one and the VGA port to hook the second monitor. Now, two externals, it may indeed need the DVI port. At this point I'm out of suggestions.

There's a device called (IIRC) the Matrox DualView that asks for up to 2560 * 1024 out of the VGA port, and splits it into two 1280 * 1024 signals. So, you'll have the internal screen, plus (the computer thinks it's one that's twice as wide, you know it's two) two 1280 * 1024 screens.

Alternately, if something can't fit, make it fit. File excess plastic off. Open the casing, so that it's not taking room. Things like that.
