I recently ordered a Thinkpad, but by mistake ordered the CD/DVD rather than the writable DVD? Do you think Lenovo will exchange the two if I pay the difference - or some negotiated price? Can they be easily swapped out?

Yes, they can easily be swapped out; no tools necessary. You can try calling and informing them of the mistake, they should replace the CD-RW/DVD-ROM with the DVD burner and add the price difference.

Should be no problem. Just call 'em so your order won't get delayed by much.
