I was watching a video today and it seems the DVD drive spins up and then spins down during play back. I was watching the DVD in windows media player. I assume it spins, buffers information then plays it and slows down?
Is there a better way to have it play video, such as playing it at 1x speed so that the drive is constantly spinning. The problem I ran into is that I am playing a video in court and so there are times when I need to stop the video and then restart it, and the constant spinning up and down seems to not work very efficiently.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

have you changed the power management settings so that the player is in the silent mode (or some such, can't remember)?
But it will spin down for sure if you stop the video
if it's homemade, I'd copy it to the HDD for court -
Couldnt find a silent mode...I remember there was one on my Toshiba laptop...but I didnt see it on the T400?
It was a homemade disk....I did copy to the HD, but now I need to figure out how to play it using WMP. On the HD it is the VOB files which I have no idea how to play. -
To play files from the hard drive using Windows Media Player, try installing the K-Lite Codec Pack (google "K-Lite Codec Pack", should be the first link - I don't have enough posts to post a direct link)
I've been using it for more than a year, and it's great: lets WMP play almost anything. -

fyi the silent mode can be accessed in the bios as well as in the advanced options under the global power settings tab in the power manager in vista

The options available are - High Performance, Normal, or Silent. Anyone have a definition of the parameters of each level? -
the vista thing was because XP and Vista LENOVO power managers have different layouts
And it's power OPTIONS in vista. typing power manager in the start search gives you the lenovo
