I just came upon this problem a few minutes ago...

I was making an audio CD, and none of the files copied correctly. The CD has useless data on it. Right clicking the drive, and selecting Eject does not work (" An error occurred while ejecting DVD RW Drive (D:)" ) pressing the button does not work, and I have to use a paperclip to manually open it.

It is a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U20N according to the properties, if that helps at all. My computer is a Lenovo T400 which I purchased last August.

Any suggestions as to what the issue is?

I know this sounds really stupid, but did you restart the computer? That can sometimes help with clearing errors.

^What's actually stupider is that I didn't try putting another CD in. I put another blank disc in the drive, and it started functioning again haha. Thanks for everyone's input anyways!
