I ordered a W510 from Lenovo, which shipped on 9/17. I paid for expidited shipping. It made its way to Louisville, Kentukcy by 9/21, where it has sat for almost a week since. The tracking information indicates it has not cleared customs. Several calls to UPS have produced completely inconsistent answers as to what the status is -- alternatively that the package has been "missorted" three times (no indication of that in the tracking info), that it is stuck because they're waiting for some sort of "invoice" from Lenovo, and in other calls that it's waiting and simply out of their control. Lenovo, for its part, says this is entirely in UPS' hands.

I've found on the Internet a number of forums talking about this problem, but it's not clear what the solution is. Some sites suggest people had to solve the problem themselves and get Lenovo to send a necessary form. Others have people telling of their computers being returned to China after waiting for a while in Kentucky. Others seem to just ultimately clear. Most seem not to be stuck as long as mine has been.

I haven't been able to find any clear consistent answers on this, but I'm hoping someone on this forum either works for Lenovo or otherwise has ordered often enough from Lenovo to know the answers to a few questions:

    1. To try to get this W510 shaken free of customs in Kentucky, is there something I can do (and if so what) or do I have to just let this run its course?

    2. How long is the outer limit on how long this typically takes? I'm thinking hard about rejecting the shipment and ordering an HP instead. I was torn between the Lenovo and HP, and now clearly wish I had gotten the HP.

That would be my suggestion to you. A few days one way or the other isn't going to make much of a difference. It's pretty rare that a notebook doesn't get delivered. I'd suggest you forget about for a while cause you're just going to drive yourself crazy in the meantime.

after reading so many threads/comments about this I think it is safe to say there are maybe some rednecks there in KY working for UPS and/or customs who have a big prob with china and imports etc.

may i suggest sending a few pouches of chewing tobacco to them ? so they will let your laptop go ?

    j/k

    :p
