In customizing the OS, what exactly does " Genuine Windows Vista Business with Windows XP Professional Downgrade****" mean? Does it mean when you receive it it will already have XP on it, or does it mean it's Vista but you'll be able to change to XP?

(I thought it should say "...Vista downgraded to XP"

The system will have XP Professional installed as the OS. It will also arrive with the media to install Vista Business (if and when you decide to do so).

No, Lenovo is not shipping that media with the computer these days
One must ask for it separately

There were other threads on this, should one wish to search for them, and I had posted what needs to be done to get the said disks

Depends on the model I think. I got the disks with my X200s.

That said I just had a T400 drive die the other day. Called Lenovo support (IBM in Atlanta) and then sent me a new drive and the disks.

No, I'll send you the bill :p

yes, and you will have to give them your Vista S/N on the sticker at the bottom of your T400. otherwise they will probably refuse, hassle you, etc.

I had heard in the past that even though XP is pre-installed that the recovery partition (Q) actually has the Vista restore image. Can anyone confirm this?? If so, you could switch to Vista by hitting the blue button and doing a factory recovery.

My x200 Tablet came with Vista Business 64 pre-installed, Vista on the recovery partition, and a recovery DVD for XP Tablet.

    hey,

i just got a T400 with this particular option. it comes with windows XP Professional installed, and it also comes with the windows vista discs for whenever you want to install vista. however, it does not come with the software to re-install windows XP. it's okay tho, b.c you can create your own recovery CD's using the the "Thinkvantage" option on the T400.

It means they made some kind of spelling error. It should say "Upgrade to XP"

If one then tries to install vista, is this considered a clean install that needs all the drivers, etc installed? Or is this an image ready to go?

If the disc/image is provided by Lenovo, it will be a Factory Preload with all the drivers, ThinkVantage software, etc. preinstalled.

From the way you say this, it seems you won't know ahead of time if you will get the image. It is not clear from JTF's post whether he got an image or the Vista disks.
