I have a T400 and I notice that if the laptop is run on ac adapter alone the current processor speed is slow (1.60 GHz) (the actual speed is 2.40GHz). When the laptop is run on battery or batter + ac adapter the current speed is correct. Does anyone have this problem? Is it normal?

It's normal. If you want full power on battery, you have to change the settings in the power management. Under screensaver - power - Power Schemes. Set to Maximum performance, or under the same tab screen is Power Manger, you can change settings from there.

You can change processor power saving features in the Power Manager (right-click on battery toolbar display). If the processor is set to Adaptive, then it will automatically downclock when not under much load to save power and generate less heat. If the processor is set to Power Saving, it will be capped at a lower clock I believe.

In short, it's normal, and it's a good thing that it's downclocking.

That's good to hear. Thank JohnBe. When the laptop run on battery the processor actually run on full speed at 2.40GHz. I would think is the the other way around.

It probably should be the other way around. Check the settings in Power Manager, perhaps they were accidentally swapped.
