The current sale is 10% off and tax-free for the T420. Is this a good deal or should I wait to purchase it? Thanks!

If you have a laptop already and can wait more, then I'd say wait.
They're going to have better deals, and I've seen much better(also, there's Labor day in a month).

PC vendors tend to have seasonal fluctuations. During the back-to-school season, which is before September, they want to put out "good-looking" deals, such as the one you mentioned. However, why would they forego of profits during their peak seasons?

IMO, the current sale of meager 10% is just "for show." The real deal comes when there is low demand, and that's when you should buy.

I'm no economist, and I may be totally off. But regardless, there will be a much better deal around the corner.

10% is basically a permanent Lenovo sale. The no-tax is a nice extra and short of education discount or EPP you probably won't see a huge additional discount int he next few months IMO. Does it include free shipping? Run the actual price and config past us here and we'll give you a verdict :D

Like all manufacturers, Lenovo constantly tweaks where the money saving offers come from -- straight sales, tax off, free upgrades, etc. so the overall discounts are usually more or less constant in my experience.

I was curious about that. The regular prices seem really high, and I don't think they would sell too much at those prices.

That price is quite high. It should be more like $900-ish.

I guess I'll hold off then. I'm not in desperate need of a new laptop. Thanks!

I purchased what you have (except I had 2 GB of RAM and a camera instead) for 930 after tax. So your price is a bit high. However, I used a mastercard coupon that was a really good deal (now expired)- I haven't seen prices go that low before. But mid 900's is a very reasonable price for your type of configuration.

    Hi garsh0p,

I would suggest you register on MasterCard Marketplace to gain access to the Lenovo Corporate Perks Exclusive Offer site for even better pricing.

I managed to get the price of US$817.78 (before taxes) with your config below after applying the THINKSAVINGS coupon.

Also, recommended to upgrade the WiFi to either the Intel Wireless-N 1000 or Advanced-N 6205.

I signed up for MasterCard Marketplace but I don't quite see the deal you're talking about. Can you possibly link me it? Thanks.

That was the one I used 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, it has expired.

Here's what I ordered for $820, after agonizing over and finally cancelling a more-expensive X220 order:

    ThinkPad T420
    Intel Core i5-2410M Processor
    Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64
    14.0 HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
    Intel HD 3000 graphics
    4 GB DDR3 - 1333MHz (1 DIMM)
    UltraNav with TrackPoint & touchpad
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    DVD recordable multiburner
    9 cell Li-Ion Battery - 55++
    Intel Centrino N1000
    3 year on-site warranty

Now I'm just waiting for it and my 80 GB Intel 310 mSATA SSD to arrive. :)
