If you want to talk about price discrepancies between other notebooks, post them here. Stop ruining every other thread with it.

Something you all need to realize is that Lenovo is going to be charging a higher premium for more advanced components because they sell less of them. When you consider the cost of the default spec, which would be perfectly suitable for a business notebook (which is what they are selling), then perhaps you will understand.

Also, consider the warranty. I can't get a 3 or 4 year warranty with accidental damage protection on an Sager.

There is no warranty extension on some...(not that the price is already including them on CTO). And many of us are surprised at the price because of previous announced price in media. We aren't complaining arbitrarily about every new thinkpad :p.

Thinkpads have always been more expensive than other notebooks. That's why I've never had one until recently when the T61p's got their price slashed last year.

These new models are going to be expensive for a while until Lenovo adds discounts to them.

I am surprised that the pricing is is a few hundred dollars more than what Lenovo stated when the models were announced. I'm hoping it's just because the models have just been released.

I was looking forward to the X200 at around $1199 but the lowest for now is $1434. Now I'm looking forward to their Ideapad netbook. They said around $500... but if it follows the recent pricing it's probably going to be $600+.

Look over to the HP business-line, and you'll see you're lucky to get a thinkpad with that price.

Exactly. Plus they are brand new! What did people expect, huge discounts right off the bat?

I thought for sure there would be a 25% off coupon the day of release? :sarcasm:

Actually you can get a good discount by going through one of their Affinity portals like the Visa cardholders one.

The coupon doesn't work but you still get the program discount.

I don't think we'll see any big Lenovo discounts until they completely phase out the old models. X61 for example is still available at a huge discount. That would be a great purchase now.

I wasn't so much worried about big discounts as I was hoping that the base price of the x200 would be what has been continually mentioned in web releases.

also a friend has the employee discount - how much % is that off the new t400?

    thanks.

The price of the HP 8710w didn't change much after a year of releasing, neither did the HP 8510w, plus there weren't any coupons, discount whatsoever. You can get a thinkpad with superior build quality, with a lot cheaper price, and people are still complaining.
If it was still the IBM day, you couldn't even afford the R series, let aside the rest of the line.

That's a bummer for me too jaredy. But announced pricing is always different from the actual pricing when the product comes out. It's too bad. I probably would have bought it the day it came out if the pricing was indeed $1199 like they announced. But in a way it's good for me since they also announced the Ideapad netbook which would be a better choice for me. Too bad it's not coming out until October :(

I am personally in the situation of wanting a new notebook for school in Sept. I am planning to give my sister my old laptop so I went ahead and pulled the trigger anyways. I was curious about the Dell E Latitude series as well but the smaller models aren't being released until Sept. (with no specific date...+ship time = too long for me to wait).

Are you considering the x61 at all webdtc? If you were going to go for a x200 and want a netbook now/too, wouldn't a x61 satisfy most of your computing needs :)?

Yes, you are right. When I was shopping for my machine I was looking at the 8510p/w and the 8710p/w and there wasn't a single coupon or anything.

BTW - 8710w is a beautiful machine. Congrats.

    Thank you,
I got a very good deal on it, otherwise, I couldn't afford it either.

X200 seems like a great computer and worth the price. I am considering the X61, but I'm looking at this as my secondary machine. Even though the price right now is really good the X61's resolution is standard 1024x768 which is not that much more than a netbook's 1024x600. The X200 has a 1200x800 resolution and that's really what I wanted it for.

Yup, buying a notebook is always tough because something is always around the corner.

The 11.1" Ideapad is the one I'd really like to get but the price on that starts at $1800. That really makes me cry. :p

:( what happened to $1,199 on the x200. Oh well, I might as well put in the T61 order that I quoted a few weeks ago.

Speaking about why I love lenovo... the cdrw drive in my t60 has been sounding off and vibrating like hell the past few months. Called in to tech support a few minutes ago, total call length of 6 minutes and I have a new drive being overnighted to me. This will be the 3rd lifetime call on this notebook, all minor things like a HD that starting getting bad sectors or a palmrest that squeaked. All other warranty claims took about the same amount of time.

Try that with anything less than a business warranty and you will want to stab your eardrums after a few minutes talking with various service reps.

^^^ Dumb Q, is that with the regular/standard warranty?

Re: price, I have noticed Lenovo's are more expensive (duh). But after I went and configured similar laptops to the T61p, like the Dell Studio, various HPs, Acers, etc, the price difference wasn't that great and I was getting a very nice T61.
I did end up buying from the Outlet for what I feel is a killer price, but if I somehow get something different than what I ordered I'll suck it up and pay the premium on a new W500 or T500. At this point I'm hooked on Lenovo and I don't even have one yet. :p

hehe, I knew that, but I thought there were some people talking about shareholder discounts still being carried over (like IBM employees still get discounts, I believe)... but I guess it doesn't matter either way - we're not invested in them any more.

the deals seem to be all dried up right now :(

People in the U.S shouldn't complain. You got your discounts and coupons every week, basically. You can customize your orders as well. In most other countries, there's no discount what so ever, and the prices are much higher than the U.S prices. In Taiwan where I am currently located, we have usually a very sparse selection of preconfigured models to pick from, and can never customize anything. And we always have to wait extra long for new releases, because U.S is always prioritized. And again, you got your discounts and coupons, and outlets where you can buy refurbished. It's all non-existant here.

When I looked at the prices I thought I was buying a Dell.
Any way to still get a t61p from lenovo's site? (I want to customize)

T61's are on a deep discount for 2 weeks at lenovo.com/cpp. I have confirmed with lenovo management that this site is open to the public, friends and family of employees and contractors.

They have T61 15 inchers starting at $606 w Linux
