Hey guys, I'm about to order the R61 and so I would just like to see what your opinions are. It's actually for my mom so I can keep in touch with her. She doesn't play games or anything, but there's a change that she may travel around so I wanted something that was relatively small but low in cost. I didn't choose the celerons because I also want some longevity since she will not likely be upgrading it (or WANTING to upgrade it) any time soon.

So fat as far as deals, I'm using CPP and USEGRANDSAVINGS. I'm willing to pay Paypal but the Paypal deal seems to be not available for CPP accounts? Any more coupons I should be aware of? Thanks :)

How much was the 100GB, 7200 rpm drive upgrade? From what you're saying, I doubt a 80GB, 5400 rpm drive would hinder her. Probably saves you $30 more.

Looks like a good set-up to me for what you need it for. The main question I would have is about the warranty. How long does she plan on having the machine for?

That is a pretty nice deal for a powerful computer. So long as you don't intend to play games. I'm not a Vista expert, but I'd probably pony up for Vista Premium vs. Basic.

I just got one that is the SAME as yours EXCEPT for:

    14.1 w/o camera
    1 GB memory
    80 GB 5400 RPM HDD
    DVD writer

You might want to consider the DVD writer, which I think should be standard on all computers sold.

    In the aftermarket I bought:

    2 GB of Crucial memory
a Targus mini, retractable cord mouse
and a Mobile Edge case through Amazon (it was cheaper) which perfectly fits the R61 w/ 6 cell battery: http://www.mobileedge.com/items_her.asp?cid=13&scid=13&pid=43

Anyway, sweet deal any way you go.

    Cheers

Looks like my machine too, except I stayed with the 80mb drive, added the DVD writer and stayed with XP. Oh, and I also stayed with the default ThinkPad wireless card as I heard it was more reliable/compatible than the Intel version.

She'll be happy and it's a good deal.

Please do not post or share information about the CPP code as that is an exclusive discount only given to Contractors and those related. It is not a public coupon and NotebookReview will not be used as a haven for such violations against the Lenovo Company.

I hope everyone who participates on these forum boards will abide by these rules or else suffer infractions.

    Thank you,

Sorry about that :( Was just trying to help.

I have another question, I am still in college now but I will be graduating and leaving this place in a month (on 5/25/2008). If I place my order now, what are the chances that I will receive it before I leave?

You have over a month for an order to arrive. IMO, that's a high chance of receiving it before you leave.

If you don't really need the camera, I'd get the WXGA+ screen for the same price, but higher resolution.
