Thinkpad X61. XP2 installed. I tried to use create rescue media in the ThinkVantage suite to create both a recovery disk and also copies of the install disks. Both operations failed with "an internal error has caused this process to fail."

    Suggestions for debugging/fixing this appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Bob

Call Lenovo and tell them that it failed and your requesting they send you the recovery disks.

That very thing happened to me. I called support and told them it failed and they sent me the recovery disks for free, and overnighted them for free also. Make sure to call support and not customer service (the number you use to order a new computer.)

Are you sure that the CD/DVD burner is working? and was it selected as the destination?

Called tech support and they're sending CDs. However, I would like to know why this doesn't work. It appears to be an issue experienced by others but the support tech had no suggestions.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Regards,

    Bob

You must've had a fault recovery partition.

Specific to your machine I believe. Or else you'd be able to install it on any machine.
