Anyone notice a crackling sound? I hear it when reloading webpages, opening webpages, opening sound files. Using different browsers and different apps and it makes the same crackling sound. Besides the crackling, my sound works fine. Only started experiencing this after a clean install, anyone else?

I am confused are you hearing it from your speakers or from your hardware. If its from your speakers make sure you have the correct sound drivers installed

Could it be due to some kind of electrostatic interference?

I doubt it, it has occured in many different environments. It seems to happen intermittently, I havn't figured out how to recreate it 100% yet.

yep I get a weird buzzing/crackling/clicking sound when scrolling pages etc. This happened with the factory installed vista and a clean winxp sp2 install. Not sure how to get rid of it. I still get it when my volume is muted I believe.
For the record, I got a similar sound after doing a clean install of vista on my desktop computer with a SB Live sound card. No idea what's causing it.

If you look in the hardware diagrams, there is an electrostatic shield kit. It comes with a ferrite bead for the speaker systems. They connect to the board near the space key and the ferrite bead goes over the cables at the connector. The bead is not standard equipment.

I get this too and I think it's linked to the video card causing the interference (T61p with nVidia 570M). The crackling sound comes when I do anything 3d (I am using Compiz with linux, so every time I move a window or switch workspaces I get a brrrzzzzz sound and usually just a slow crackling sound).

I guess XP and Vista both use some sort of graphics acceleration for windows and drawing windows so might be causing it

Hmmm reinstalled sound drivers last night and have been using the computer crackle free while typing some reports. Next morning and after a restart everything is still good. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I have noticed no additional sounds with my audio whatsoever, in any situation.
I left that H$!! behind with my Dell Inspiron.

I have a T60p with WinXP which I now hate because of this weird crackling /scrolling sound. Every time I scroll in a browser or scroll anywhere (scroll the add remove list in control panel gives me very loud scratchy noise) I get the noise. I have installed new audio drivers (sound max) ..but doesn't seem to help. It is very annoying. I also have other "noise" issues. I have had two hard drives replaced because of clicking noise (noise during hard drive seek ) hard drive got replaced pretty fast by Lenovo but the sound still remains. They though it was the hard drive. I guess it is something else. God knows what it is. but this is the worst T60p in terms of noise. My wife has a T60 and it is very nice. My older T41p is also very very quiet. It has that too but I can barely notice it. Some fundamental design issue in the making of laptops I guess.

I am going to talk to Lenovo guys to find out if they can do something about it. I doubt it though.
