Is there a known problem with IBM's T43's earphone port? When im using my earphones to listen to online radio, it crackles... It doesn't do it too often, but enough to annoy me. And I don't think its the radio websites problem, i listen to it w/ my desktop and it doesn't happen. I haven't tried any mp3s yet or Audiocd's cause just got this lappy so... plus kinda busy so don't have much time to mess with it.

    Any comments are welcomed. Thanks!

    hey man,
i've had the same problem with my x notebook, but i realized it was because the volume was turned on to max :).

press the volume down button on ur thinkpad keyboard or turn the volume down, that will get rid of the crackling sound.

Ok.. its defintely not the volume setting at which I have it, because I don't have it running on full blast. I did noticed that i hear crackling noises when i try to watch these online lectures. If i play mp3's on the laptop there'd no crackling sound, but when i play mp3s with the lecture video on pause, i can hear a lot of crackling.

At first I thought it could be the codecs that I installed (K-Lite), so I uninstalled it. The problem still did not go away, so I uninstalled Windows media player10 and rebooted and reinstalled. That doesn't work either, so right now I think the problem is with my hardware. This laptop was from an unopened box so i don't know whats up with that. Might have to send it back for IBM. :( i've only had it for a week sigh!!

Here is the link to the lecture video. Can some1 tell me if they hear crackling noises or not. I know with my desktop, these crackling noises does not exist whatsoever. mms://mgt-media.mgt.buffalo.edu/MGS351/MGS351_rec_9a.wmv
Thanks. BTW give it a few secs or skim around. The crackling sound is everywhere.

call IBM tech support, if you've had the thing for only a week, this is obviously a warranty issue. just to make sure, have you tried different pairs of headphones? do the integrated speakers crackle?

Usually, "cracking" sounds are associated with power interference. If you can somehow get ahold of a surge protector(I think...) or something like that... it usually takes care of the problem.

    1. Does this problem happen when the system is on batteries only?

    2. Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the soundmax drivers?

    3. Get an Echo Indigo DJ/IO. Its far better anyway :)
