I have a X61. When I work at home or at the office I usually remove the battery. I was told this can extend the battery life a bit. Do you know whether there is any compartment cover available so to prevent dust to go inside the machine.

    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a battery cover.

There is an ultrabay cover though.

I really wish there was. :( I think it's silly that companys' don't make them, for that reason you mentioned: dust. Batteries are so expensive, and I really don't like to keep it in my laptop if I don't use it.

I keep my laptop plugged in most of the time, but leave the battery in. At least that way I'm using it as an UPS instead of just lying around.

Does it reduce the lifetime of the battery a bit? Maybe. But it's going to degrade after a couple years anyway, might as well use it.

I just set reasonably conservative charging thresholds, like 80%, and let the battery do its thing.

I have my battery out at the moment, kinda silly that there's no compartment cover, usually Lenovo has all sorts of weird parts you can get to cover things up like that.
