    Hi,

Just about to buy a T60 but wanted to know 2 things:

    1. Weak point of many lappies is dust clogging the fan or the heat sink. I noticed that "pro" notebooks had typically better/bigger fan outlets than cheaper ones hence no over heating etc..
Can anyone confirm the fan / heat sink area is easily accessible for cleaning?

    2. Another weak point is the AC plug in the laptop itself. I use them a lot on my lap and therefore the plug can sometimes be in the way etc... Used to have an Acer and after 10-11 months, the plug "broke off" inside the laptop so it would not power anymore. Friend of mine got the same problem with his Dell laptop.
Can anyone confirm that the T60 is "better built" in that sense??

I currently run a HP nx7400 and am pretty impressed with these 2 points. 10 months on, the fan hardly ever runs and the power is still well in place!
Knowing I used the laptop 10 hours daytime on a desk and 4-5 hours evening on lap, this is pretty solid stuff from HP.

    Thanks,

    Vince

If I may ask, why are you getting a T60 if you are happy with your nx7400? The T60 is much of a upgrade performance wise.

I use a can of compressed air to blow the vents out. I've never had a problem with a laptop AC adapter. The nice thing about ThinkPad is they are small. I don't know they're any better built.

    And they're generally thinner too.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I always wanted a Thinkpad. When I bought the HP, I actually went in the shop for a R60 but they screed up the order and needed a laptop asap so ended up with the nx7400. Honnestly pretty pleased with it, no complaints whatsoever (except Windows but hey not HP's fault!!). I upgraded to 2MB RAM.
Now my wife needs a laptop, so I would give her mine and buy myself a new one :D
Found a very good deal potentially on a T60 so am ready to plunge... can't wait to type on the other of all keyboards!

Regarding compressed air, I never liked that solution because you only move dust around, if you blow air from the outside, most of the dust will remain inside, just in another place. I only blow compressed air if I open the laptop.
Had to do so quite often with an Acer I had but not needed so far with the HP.

The air outlet on the side is quite big, cooling the laptop pretty well. Heat sink looks bigger too.

One more question though, which docking station to choose??

Just so happens that I have a brand new one of those that has all the original boxing, manuals and all the original items. If you are interested, I need to sell it before I go to college, I have 118 flawless feedback on eBay and would be willing to working something out with you. Let me know if your interested!!

BTW, the dock that I have was used for one night.
