I have two small scratches on the LCD of my Thinkpad T61. I believe they're from the keyboard -- one is about 1mm, and the other one is about 2mm. I'll probably have to learn to live with them, but I wanted to see if anyone here has had a similar experience.

What is the cost of replacing the LCD? Is it really worth the price? I know there is no way to remove an LCD scratch once it's there.

    Update for those interested:

I will be sending the machine back to Lenovo's service center in Tennessee. If they deem that it's their fault (which I think it is...it's simply from keys rubbing against the screen when it's closed, which is normal use), then they'll replace it free of charge.

If not, the cost to replace is $750! Which I will obviously not do.

Another alternative is to buy an LCD off eBay and replace it myself. Anyone done this? How hard is it? I assume I'd void any warranties by doing so...

Check ebay if they deem it is your fault. The LCD's are considerably cheaper (I think around 100-200 for the panel). There are plenty of guides on Lenovo's website on how to change it too.

I thought after $550 + tax, everything is covered under a "flat fee" repair. I was quoted this from an authorized lenovo repair center in California

you basically need to go to the lenovo site and type in your machine type to find the exact part number you need. then search ebay (or other 3rd party suppliers) and use the guides at lenovo to do the swap yourself.

or maybe wait for something else to give (maybe a few dead pixels) and then make lenovo do the fix

If Lenovo isn't willing to fix it on their dime, and they are small scratches, I'd opt to polish them out or just live with it myself. A scratch on the screen would not warrant a replacement to me at least. I'd only replace it if it showed nothing at all or colors were completely funky :p

Cannot find part #42V9645 anywhere on the Internet. Anyone know where I can acquire this LCD? It's 1440x900... I assume that eBay would have some reasonable alternatives.
