I want to copy the lenovo recovery drive and delete it, as it is taking up valuable space on my 80GB msata ssd.

I already have the original HDD removed from my system, but i want a copy of the backup to take with me on the road.

When i double click the q drive, it says it says "this utility allows you to recover this space once you have made a copy of this software to DVD. We strongly recommend that you make a copy using the Create Recovery MEdia utility in the windows start menu or by selecting this option below"

    options:
    - Create recovery media
    - Recover drive space

I've selected Create recovery media before using the lenovo thinkvantage toolbox, and all it does is saves about 390mb of data to a disk. That is obviously not the whole recovery partion, so a massive what the hell is going on here? How can I then delete it (by clicking on "recover drive space") if i haven't actually made a full copy? Have lenovo stuffed up here or have I missed something.

    Thanks!

Did you make the Rescue and Recovery DVD set that allows you install the original factory image?

huh? not sure where i said i did that. I don't even own a dvd drive... dvd is dead anyway isn't it...
can we just stick to topic, can somone respond to my OP, thanks! (sorry in a real rush, got a zillion computer things to do before I leave on a trip...)

All Resuce and Recovery media does is "enables you to access ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery tools, even when you are unable to start the windows envirnoment"

So why are they giving my the option to create Rescue media, when they are actually telling me to save a backup of the recovery partion (~8gb)???

Me confused right now is an understatement

And the other thing is when i go into R&R, and click on view backups, as i have not perfomed a backup yet, it doesn't show any backups that are available. Now this sorta makes sense, apart from the Q drive partioned factory backup which obviously exists. How would i actually backup to that one if I even needed to? Why is this so damn confusing...

ok so i worked out what i was doing. when i clicked "Create recovery media", i then checked both the "media" and "data" options.
It first makes the "media" disk. Then after that was done, it then creates the "data" disk after you agree to it. Problem was i didn't realise it was asking to do a different thing, and i presumed i had clicked it twice so I canceled it.
So i did it again, and now I have a 16gb SD card with the boot media, as well as the 8.7gb of factory data on it :)

that's cool - but how will you boot from an SD card?
