Why doesn't Lenovo include an OEM copy of your purchased OS with your computer? With other laptop's I've purchased, they've always come with a Windows disc.

i imagine because it's cheaper for them and the masses don't generally care.

i think it's a total rip off, and won't buy a lenovo, or any other computer for that matter, that does not provide me with a copy of the software installed on the computer. a copy like i had bought the software at the store copy- not a 'recovery partition.'

hp does the same thing, i think for it's non-business class computers.

    boo hp!
    boo lenovo!
    boo whoever else does this!

You can burn recovery discs using the recovery partition...and the advantage of this is that you can make as many as you want in case you lose them.

The Lenovo recovery discs allow you the option to install or not install the bloatware. They call it a custom factory install.

Most manufacturers don't ship with the OS discs anymore, so i hardly think its just a Lenovo situation. I did acquire the factory install XP discs on ebay and there is a vista set available also. Lenovo does not have the typical bloatware the likes of dell and sony have as most of the auxillary items are part of the thinkvantage suite of utilities.

What I dont like about the recovery cds/dvds is that you cant use them to repair your OS. That is where the anytime upgrade dvd comes in handy for Vista users.

Just borrow a friends XP Pro CD and use your Product Key under your notebook.

Thats what I did for my clean install, and it worked fine.

Yes, but the general public cannot or has the time to do so. When I worked tech support, one of the top 10 complaints from a customer was that they could not do a repair and had to reimage. It would have been nice for customers to have them instead of having to hear them screaming in our ears [IMG]

Err, Dell's Vostro line has the least amount of bloatware. You can config how much bloatware you desire when ordering or absoolutely none. Lenovo has lots of garbage ware such as Norton, etc.
