    I recently bought a 15" IPS T60 with a T7200 (core 2 duo 2ghz), Radeon x1400, 5400rpm hdd. The laptop itself runs cool (keyboard and case doesn't get warm), but the fan is always running (and the air coming out of the vent is room temperature). Under load, the air coming from the vent is hot.

    My idle temps are 45c CPU, and 55c gpu.

    My colleague at work has a 14" T60 with core duo 2ghz (not core 2), Radeon x1400 and 5400rpm hdd as well. His laptop also runs cool, but the fan is not audible even under load.

    I figured that since i have a larger laptop, there would be more room for cooling and such, and that my 15" would run cooler and quieter than a 14" with similar specs. What gives?

    What about your environment? Maybe your colleague has more free space around the computer or, maybe his room is a couple of degrees cooler?

    Your assumption about 15" running cooler is right. Our 15" laptops sound less than the 14" laptops. That is for T60, T60p and T61(p); we do not have 14" T61p with 570M yet to compare for now.

    I forgot about ambient temp. Colleague = 65 degrees air conditioned room. Mine is in 80 degrees non air conditioned.

    Thanks =)

    Yeah, sometimes easy to forget that!
