    Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has tried converting their Lenovo recovery DVD media into USB sticks? I'd love to be able to use the recovery discs without shelling out for an external DVD drive I guess. It's not a huge expense either way, but since I have a few large USB sticks handy I figured I'd ask.

Seems like it would be cool if Lenovo let me pay $10 or something on top of my T440s' price to get the recover media on USB.

I don't think you can do it after the fact, you have to do it up front (assuming it even lets you).

You can do it with a partitioning utility (like gparted or palimpsest [aka "gnome disk utility" aka "disks"] on a linux liveusb) by copying the recovery partition onto a usb device (and then resizing that partition if you want). I've done it before on my X220.

There's also a folder in the root of C: (and the recovery partition as well) called factoryrecovery that has WIM files and a script. In this script you can copy and paste the commands to make a working recovery USB stick if you have WAIK (windows automated installation kit) installed.

You can use the Windows 8 restore utility to copy the recovery partition to a USB drive, 16GB drive min.
