    Hi,
this is just came up to me, I have not given much thought into this yet, so do not think this way yet, as I am not trying to troll to bad mouth a thinkpad.

I need some help as the more I think about it, the more it seems to me that Lenovo has simply shipped me with a repackaged "returned unit"

I even think that I am insane to actually think that this could even be possible so I am here to ask a few question and hope this is just a stupid thought of mine.

I have seen a few pictures of thinkpads that are still in their original plastic bag. I have always see that there is a sticker in a shape of a 1/4 circle on top and in the corner of the lid. for example this one http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/13230.jpg

Now, does every one have that sticker when they have recieved their new thinkpad?

there are a few issues that I lead me to believe that my thinkpad isnt new, but since I am still thinking that I am just crazy, I will not discuss them util that sticker question is confirmed.

oh ya, other than the fact that my thinkpad is a little defected, as I have asked in a thread that my thinkpad makes a buzzing sound when nothing is plugged in, and only in that condition.

    thanks for reading

The Z61m I reviewed had it. If you bought from Lenovo you can always return it.

Yes, since it was defected, I have them ordering a replacement already, it's in process. However just the thought of the possibility of them sending me a "returned unit" is very disturbing. Of course, I hope I am very very wrong.

    1. mine does not have that sticker as I mentioned.
    2. my machine is making a buzzing sound

    3. the pannel just under the screen where T60 mark resides just above key board, there is a greesy circular mark which reflects light, and another one of those on the left side of the same pannel area.

    4. One corner of the batter is bended, feels like someone had dropped it very slightly on the corner. I did not notice that til I took out the battery the first time yesterday, since I popped it in the day I recieved it, 4 days ago.
since it's on the inside so when it's in the machine, you will not see it, but you do see a slight curved in between L shaped corner and the machine. I thought the battery was just designed to round off at the edge so I did not check til yesterday.

I guess that's all the points which led me to believe that it was a returned unit.

EDIT: Oh and I bought the machine using a visaperk discount, so it made me believe my theory more, since it was a discounted unit. Friends say. why would they sell you a unit for 900 less for no reason when they can sell for the regular price?

I obviously have no idea, but I would be pretty surprised if Lenovo sent you a returned unit. All of those things are not good, but it's certainly conceivable for those problems to occur on a new laptop.

I'm fairly sure my t43 didn't come with a sticker. They might have started it later, but I know mine didn't have it. The buzzing sound I have no idea, but again it could happen on a new laptop.

The battery is simple, and I'd bet my laptop that it isn't used. Go into battery manager and check (1)the cycle count, and (2)manufactured date and first used date. If Lenovo is running a big 'sell used as new' ring, they would have to be complete idiots to send you an easily verifiable used battery.

Another thing I have heard is that returns go to-, and all refurbished items come from here in the US, I think it's North Carolina or Kentucky. So, if on your UPS tracking, it originated in China, it's another sign.

I'm sure anything is possible, but the enormous risk Lenovo would be taking makes it seem unlikely to me that they (or any other major laptop manufacturer) would do it. If one single person had good enough evidence, lenovo could be sued by pretty much anyone and everyone who bought a computer from them, and Lenovo would be out of business just like that. I understand it's annoying not to receive a 100% perfect laptop, but I would need quite a bit to convince me that it was refurbished, unless it was a freak accident. Hopefully you'll get a better t60 this time around, and you'll be happy.

My T60 doesn't come with a sticker either. But I do think it was brand new, not refurbished unit. The battery was new with 0 cycle.

hm i noticed your thread too, I think you should do it like me, call tech support and tell them to ship you a replacement unit, and they will tell you to give them your credit card info and fax ur invoice, once you are done, they will call you and send you a new one with it a return box to put your current t60 in.

if the other one is defected as well, I would then just return the thing and ask for a full refound. I am still waiting for them to ship me a new one, meanwhile, I guess I could test around new software and etc on this current broken machine. When the new one comes, just pop in the recovery disk and let it store back to factory default before you send it back.

I tried very hard to think that this is just a crazy imagination of mine for them to send me a used machine, since they are a pretty big company and I dont know how they got this big by being sneaky to save money or by being a good honest company with repeated buyers. I am just goin to look at this one as an isolated incident since I do not have any hard proof to back up my theory and hope the new machine will be as wonderful as I had hoped.

    edit:
it does make me wonder though, what do they do with all the returned machine? do they just burn it or do use it to test things or use them to shoot another oen of those thinkpad story short film?
