Would this be too much for my graphics card? Dell Ultrasharp U30xx not sure which one yet.

Graphics card? No, not at all. If you use DisplayPort for video-out, you should be fine. What is the resolution of your 30" monitor?
-
my whole goal of getting this setup is get max resolution of 2560x1600
-
I think you might need a different goal. From the tabook.pdf specs:
-
dispalyport on the T500, R500, W500 will support this resolution just fine.
-
-
I guess, once again, the Lenovo published specifications are wrong. That's the last time I reference them.

intel GM45 systems can only output 1920x1200 over digital connections. i've not yet seen one that can handle 2560x1600 over DVI or displayport.
my former X301 and current X200T are both limited to 1920x1200 even with an active displayport to DVI-D adapter. other GM45-based systems should be no different.
if someone has evidence to the contrary then please post a photo and complete system specs. i'd like to see this for myself. -
Lenovo Support - ThinkPad Advanced Mini-Dock - Overview
If the above is the dock you're using, then the specs mention the dock will support 2560x1600 Pass-Through(only). Actual resolution depends upon the thinkpad itself.
I don't anything about the T-500, but would suspect it's current enough to be able to drive a 30" monitor ok. -
Warakawa was running his X200t ultrabase DP with U2711 at its native resolution.

i got two of these U2711, one at office and another one at home. Great LCD definitely worth the 600 odd dollars that i spent.

I have a Dell u2711 connected to my W510 dock via DisplayPort. 2560x1440 is too small (for me) so I have the DPI set to 135%. Love the brightness, color, contrast, etc. Much better than my previous 27".
But I really want a U3011. -
love the U3011, i would get one when the price comes down.
Now all my LCD are Dell Ultrasharp, they are the best for the price.
Connecting to a 30 inch monitor /w T-500
