Connecting X200 to monitor with VGA

    Hi all,

When using my X200 at home I'd like to connect it to a large display and a keyboard/mouse for more comfortable use. I'm starting to lose hope with the T400s so it looks like a digital connection is out of the question, i.e. I'm stuck with VGA unless I get the X200 docking station which I think is too expensive for what it provides, unless I can get it for like $50. (I wonder why it costs $150 to basically re-wire a docking station port into a variety of other ports )

So anyway, I connected my X200 to my 22" 1920x1080 Acer monitor, and the VGA just looks like crap compared to DVI. So I have 2 questions:

    1. Some monitors seem to look better with VGA than others. So in general, is there a particular brand which I can trust to have a high-quality VGA interface?

    2. Would it help if I bought a better VGA cable? I'm using the one which came for "free" with the monitor, and it's pretty thin. Would it make a difference if I bought a thicker one with some shielding, since this is an analog signal?

Sorry for the long post, I have a tendency of writing things in "story form" :p

Any advice would be appreciated :)

You might want to check on eBay or the MarketPlace forum on ThinkPads.com, but you're not going to get it for $50. It's too new. It's odd to me, but I can never really tell the difference between VGA and DVI.

A different VGA cable wouldn't make a difference unless the cable you have is defective. Did you set the resolution to the highest setting on the LCD? Also, check if it's correctly outputting in 32-bit.

I frequently use my x200 to watch movies on my samsung 42" TV and 24" Acer monitor. The difference between VGA on the X200 vs HDMI on my roommate's HP DV2 isn't that huge. Rather, we use the X200 instead because it is more stable, and can last through a 2 hour movie.
