Hi, I want to connect my T400 to an external monitor. I am thinking about the DELL ULTRASHARP 2408WFP, which has HDMI, DVI-D, HDCP, DisplayPort, VGA, Component Video, S-Video, and Composite Video.

My problem is I don't know anything about these connectivity options. What is the best type of connection to shoot for? In terms of connectivity to the T400, what should I look for when purchasing an external monitor? Any info, instructions, tips etc. would be useful. Or if you can direct me to a resource already there, that's also great. Thanks!!!

your notebook only has a vga-connector. though, a vga-connection is not ideal for running a monitor like the 2408wfp. for the resolution is so high that you will likely get a slightly blurry picture on your screen. better, connect such a high-res monitor to a digital output.

for that you need, e.g., a docking station. you might want to have a look at the advanced mini dock.
